Office 2003: Installation source for product not available

If I try to change or remove Office 2003, I get the error message "The installation source for this product is not available. Verify that the source exists and that you can access it."

I have a stand-alone laptop running Windows XP Pro SP2. Office 2003 was un upgrade from Office XP.

Thanks,
John Holecek

To SheharyaarSaahil,

I accepted your answer because the fixes you gave were so complete (although I haven't applied them yet, the process you outline will surely work).

To stevenlewis:

Your answer would have put me on the right track, but it wasn't as complete as the accepted answer.

In any case, thanks to you both. I appreciate it. Experts Exchange is the greatest!

To SheharyaarSaahil,

I ran the Installer Cleanup, reinstalled Office XP and then the Office 2003 upgrade, and all is well. Thanks.

I had this same issue and used the windows installer cleanup utility, then reinstalled Office 2003 Professional over itself.  Has worked on one workstation so far.

the second link above is what worked for me:  http://go.microsoft.com/?linkid=1396133
The fix-it-for-me program worked very well on Server SBS 2003 R2 with Office 2003 Pro.  It may have helped clear up some other issues with the server not installing some updates properly, but I also reinstalled Windows Installer v4.5 so that may have helped too.
