I have a problem with newly installed Norcent CD rw 48x12x48 on Windows XP. I am able to use it as CD rom
drive but I am not able to write anything on the drive.
I tried using both Nero and Roxio.
Do I need to install any drivers? If so please send me the link.
One more thing,
I am trying to trouble shoot this problem remotely. So I dont have access to BIOS or any other hardware details.
I need this urgently.
Thank you,
Venkat.

When you say that you can't write anything on the drive, do you mean you can't do any disc copying for example, or are you trying to drag and drop files using windows explorer?
Open nero and click on the top left of the window that comes up (I think it says nero, but it changes the look once updated) then make sure all the components are up to date. This may take a while if you are doing it remotely.
It shouldn't be neccesarry to install any drivers manually. I have never had to install a driver for any optical drive ever. (Not really anyway, not for windows)
If you can use the drive as a normal CD ROM then I would suggest that the driver is fine.
Try these two things and see if that fixes the problem. 1. get rid of roxio, 2. update nero.
Hope this helps.
Nero is not detecting it as a RW drive.

I think that is sufficient

If you look in device manager it will say the model there.
Control panel, system, hardware, device manager, DVD/CDROM drives, and then double click on your drive.
I will check it and get back to you..

I haven't run it, but I'd guess that it has to be run by an Administrator.

The_Real_Rat_Boy,
As far as firmware is concerned, I went through the files on the link

I am not sure unless it seems they are for windows 98. I will check that and let you know.
