Looking for the best remote desktop connection software.

I have 2 needs for remote desktop connection software.

The first is a software solution (like PcAnywhere, without the high price) that I can install on client computers and then remotely connect to them anytime I want too.  This software can be ported through the firewalls with no problems but is there for me to use anytime.  This is what I need for clients that I am on retainer with and can connect after hours to work on their problems when they are away,

The second need is for desktop connection software that allows me to connect to a clients computer ONLY when they initiate the connection from their end (like WebEx, but without the high price).  This will be for random clients that want my support and pay per session and do not need me to be a retainer. This software HAS to be firewall piercing so that the clients do not have to worry with porting (if they knew how to do that they would not need my services)

Both software solutions would be rolled out on a larger scale, 25-100 clients on the first solution, 1-10 consecutive connections (concurrent) on the second solution.

I am already famlilar with and do not like the following solutions..
PCAnywhere - (perfect features for first solution but too expensive)
WebEx - (perfect features for the second solution but too expensive)

Anything with "firewall peircing" capabilities will require a client-server solution and is not going to be cheap.  These systems must have a client installed on the remote PC that will sustain a connection to a central server so that the central server can pass the request through (how webex, and other such services work).

You might try Microsoft NetMeeting.

...alternatively, you need to have control over the configuration of the network and firewall setup, and the difficulties/potential issues that might cause.....I know which route I took:)
>>Both software solutions would be rolled out on a larger scale, 25-100 clients on the first solution, 1-10 >>consecutive connections (concurrent) on the second solution.

Can you really work on more than one client at once?

For the clients on a retainer...stick a server in their site...and make sure you can connect to it. If you need to work on them outside office hours...just get them to leave their vnc server running.

For the second one I believe that you need to think about the process a little more. You will be contacted (by phone?/website? and asked for assistance. When you are free, you ask them to connect. If you have 10 concurrent connections...then there is a real problem! If you are thinking of having multiple support staff, then each one just gets assigned a different ip address for the client to conenct to?
If you like webex, then you may wish to look at eAuditorium:

http://www.netdive.com/

but again I feel that you can achieve all you need without this level of complexity.

nothing beats VNC // www.realvnc.com
as many experts listed above, this app simply works.

good luck hunting.
Except for the Real-VNC that works really great (excpet for it graphic interference)
I used in the past to work with a simple "Netmeeting" that is installed in almost any windows client.

You can set netmeeting to run in the background automatically in all of your clients,
restrict it by password (or not) and gain remote control upon a request from the client
or by froce from your side.

I found netmeeting much better then Real-VNC
as you can talk with the person that you're remoting !

Good luck
Regarding the concern for firewall with Real-VNC: we've enabled the outside IP access through our firewall and remote access through VNC has been excellent.  I highly recommend it!
I would recomend a product form networkstreaming. If uses vnc but it has been configured so that the client inatioates the connection too you so you don't have to worry about firewalls. Trust me I know how bad it can be trying to get a school district to configure their firewall to give you access. Also this pruduct unlike webex has just a onetime fee per a seat and each seat is allowed multiple connections. Check it out at
http://www.networkstreaming.com/products/supportdesk.html
They have a free trial so their is nothing to lose.

Well good luck
na, attention all IT and IT wanna bees....

http://www.logmein.com. That is all you ever need and it cost a whole fat large $0.
so you think gotomypc is good.Do ya really like vnc? Forget about it.
okay, so what's the catch. You have to love helping people remotely. no cost, no spam just too much fun..

so what about remote install on new customers? I have http://www.networkstreaming.com. Although their current access lite sucks at last I checked I think they users have to allow you to connect, there older version is great. My website has the file, they download and install 200k and boom I am in. Just do a search for remote desktop software and you will find similiar products cheaper. They used to have a remote control email module, send and email and a the remote email software would execute the network streaming but it had bugs so I used poptray.org. Poptray works well to excute and program after you send en email it's always checking a pop account for that email.

I used to think I was set for life. I had gotomypc on my computer and when a customer would call me saying they had problems I would connect to my office via gotomypc then my office computer would connect to my client via networkstreaming. Now i just have logmein for current customers. And networkstreaming for new customers.

good luck

If you like logmein so much you should try rescuelogmein. It is in beta right no so it is completly free. If would be a replacement for networkstreaming. I like it better with screen resulution. Also it will be cheep even when it is off beta at 100$ a month per seat.

I do agree logmein is a great product still truing to figure out why the give it for free!

For remote support software check out http://www.4RemoteSupport.com.
It's remote control software that's accessed online with nothing required for you or your end-user to install. They have a free trial and don't ask for a credit card.

You could be connected to multiple computers at the same time over the internet or on your LAN and WAN (frame, T1s, VPN). I thought it was pretty cheap myself compared to some of the other packages from some big players who mostly cost a thousand+. Some even add bandiwdth usage.

I hope this helped.
I use logmein. It's free, no firewall, easy to install and works beautifully through firewalls.

It's the first software I have used that allowed me to be remoted into one client, open a VPN connection to another remote network (which always disconnects remote software) and when the connection came online at the other end, I could reconnect and resume my session!
