Filemon runs as a background service, what specific tasks are you looking to automate with it? Are you looking for something to parse the output logs?

I was not aware that you could run it as a background process.
I am running this from the command line but I need to collect the data over time for say 5 min intervals and have the data written out to file for each interval.
filemon -o /tmp/filemon.out -O pv -T 320000; sleep 180; trcstop
