Can you tel we what all to do ? where can i get p4 motherboard & chip  assembling instructions step by step. Where ever i look i have to pay for it? It it available any where for free?

Will i be able to put the p4 motherboard in the same cabinet as my p3?

Do I need a seperate power supply?

Please help me out as to what all i should do so that i can make my pc Intel p4 one.

If your current PC is a standard noname system you can use the same case. Some well known models like compaq etc. use mainboards that don't fit into other cases, so if you want to fit a normal mainboard into such a case, it won't work. Compaqs also often use special powersupplies etc. So it is best if you tell us more about your current PC.

When you buy a mainboard you usually get a manual with it which describes how to set it up pretty well. It will also tell you which CPU's and Which RAM work best for that board.

Sometimes if you want to build your own PC, a barebone system may be a good idea. These are systems which come with a case and mainboard, you need to add the ram, CPU and disks. These systems are very compact but usually have a lot of power. Look at the XPC's of http://shuttle.com

I wouldn't bother upgrading from P3 to P4. I looked into it and it was more cost effective to buy a P4 machine and keep your old P3 as a second computer for the house. The reason being that you will likely require a new power supply since P4 processors have a higher power requirement and it requires a 12V connectior (http://www.intel.com/support/platform/pentium4/cases.htm) . You will also need new memory since P3 and P4 motherboards use different memory types. For the price of buying a P4 processor and memory individually, you can almost get a complete P4 system. Plus, your current P3 systems seems pretty old that the only thing you'll reasonably salvage is the case, the floppy drive, and the 6.4 GB hard drive as a secondary drive for your new system. Checkout www.tigerdirect.com for some good prices on barebone systems.

As for assembling your system, there should be plenty of articles freely available on the internet detailing how to do so. The problem is finding one single, comprehensive website that shows everything.

I agree with Joe1968

Even your GFX probably needs to be replaced if its AGP 1.0(2X) as many newer Mobo's only support AGP2.0(4X) 3.0(8X)
Only things you can reuse is drives and maybe the case(Not PSU)

Yes Joe1968 is right, unless you want to throw more money at this project than the cost of building a P4 machine from scratch.  Not just the 12v AUX connector from the PSU, new MoBO, updating the cooling system, CPU, new RAM etc, chance are your case won't support the PSU fan position unless you get a can opener out, the list can go on & on!

Go for a new system!

M :o)
If you need serious case modding here is the answer

I actually used one of these when adapting and old P2 compaq case to contain a newer ATX PSU

Hi  tejas_jyothi,

For a new P4 system, you should change Processor, Motherboard.
I have heard ASUS is better.

You may have to add RAM (If you have SDR, then you will have to buy DDR), HDD (6 GB is not be suffecient if you plan to install Winodws XP with other softwares also), CD-RW or COMBO DRIVE (Because every one nowadays has CD-RW and data communicates through CDs. Combo Drives also read DVDs which are also becoming popular. They are cheap too).  and Case (If yours is not branded ATX don't change it.)

You are not required to change Monitor, KB, Mouse, Speakers etc.
