Win2003 Server - DNS server could not initialize RPC Event ID: 140
Recently upgraded a DC from 2000-->2003
-2000 was working perfectly before upgrade
-after upgrade things have been working great for about 1month
-this had happened 3 times, the error and stopped services
-all I have to do to fix it is restart DNS Server - service
-happens once per week at about the same time of day
-here is the only log error:
(DNS event id 140 - DNS_EVENT_RPC_SERVER_INIT_ FAILED)
The DNS server could not initialize the remote procedure call (RPC) service. If it is not running, start the RPC service or reboot the computer. The event data is the error code.
Windows 2003 Server Std. Ed.
P4 2.4Ghz, 2gb Ram
2 NICs, one connected one not
AD Controler, DNS
RPC is running and of course doesn't automatically restart. Rebooting the server has fixes this problem.
Any Ideas??? Things to watch for right before it quits??? Any way to set it to automatically restart if it does fail???
