Hello,

I'm using a frame and I use the DOCTYPE frameset in the frameset.html
But what should I use inside the pages in the frames?
Can I use strict or transitional, is there any rules about this?

Thanks.

Hi Monica,

You should be using the transitional doctype within the pages:
<!DOCTYPE HTML PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD HTML 4.0 Transitional//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/REC-html40/loose.dtd">

The frameset DTD is the exact equivalent to it, except for replacing the body element with the frame element.

It won't support the required attributes you need to use in Frames.

http://www.w3.org/TR/html4/struct/global.html#version-info
"The HTML 4.01 Strict DTD includes all elements and attributes that have not been deprecated or do not appear in frameset documents."

If you look at the frameset DTD, you'll see that all it does is state that the frameset tag replaces the body tag, and then it includes the full transitional DTD.
