Hi All,

I'm getting this error message when I hit the "play" button to debug a page:

"Error while trying to run project: Unable to start debuggin on the web server.  You do not have permission to debug the application.  The URL for this project is in the Internet zone.  Click Help for more information."

My user account is part of the Administrators group and the Debugger group.....

Hi  samtran0331,

Open Programs-> Administraive Tools ---> Internet Service Manager:

Default Web Site---> Your Site:

Right click on the site---> Properties--->Directory Security Tab---->

click on Edit---> Check > Integrated Windows Authentication then OK

Try run your project again from Visual studio net 'Play' button.

hope this helps.

ayha,

It was already checked...
Does the debugger use MY account or could this be related to the aspnet user acct?

start Internet Exploer---> Open File menu and make sure that "Work Offline" is not selected, then try again.

the asp.net app loads fine in IE if I hit the URL.
I'm trying to use breakpoints to step thru the code and that's why I'm trying to use the debugger.
I've been using a label and writing to the label to see how far code executes...
example

mysub()

code chunk 1

label.text = label.text & "code chunk1 ok"

code chunk 2

label.text = label.text & "<br>code chunk2 ok"

code chunk 3

.....

I"m mimicking breakpoints with a label and checking variable values with labels....want to use the debugger

did u make sure that IE is not in Offline mode?

did u ever succeded to run your project in debug mode with ur current user account?

run the project on release mode. if succeeds then try to run in debug mode and see.

close the solution, exit vs.net, restart the computer, then open project and try to run in debug mode again.

let me know what happens now?

Hi again,

try the following line in the web.config file.

<compilation defaultLanguage="vb" debug="true" />

you must be member of VS Developers as well as Debugger Users.

Another thing is, restart IIS and see.

Try restarting, IISAdmin service from AdminTools>Services..

hope one of these helps.

ayha,

Our net admins did some work cleaning out active directory ...and when I checked the VS Developers group...it was empty.  Added myself back to that and I can debug!!!
Thanks for your help!
