Installing Groupwise 6.5 SP3 server with WebAccess using Relay Host.
Hi Experts,
I want to install a Groupwise 6.5 (SP3) system. The Primary server will be Netware6.5 SP2 and all the agents will run on it.
The primary function of this server is to provide WEB-Browser based e-mail.
The users also need to sync their Palm OS based PDA's.
We have a relay host for sending outbound e-mails which we can use.
We DO NOT have a Public IP address or a Registered Domain. We want the users to be able to run WebAccess (When they are on the Internal Network).
Using the Relay host the users should be able to send outbound e-mails.
Is this scenario possible without the MX records and a Registered Domain. If yes can somebody give a step by step instructions to do it.(:-)
Thanks in advance

First of ALL That's the best reply i could get and it was FAST!!!!
Some of the things you said i have already implemented like Keeping the Domain & Post Offices in separate volumes.
1.After install and reboot, going to the proper URL on the server (http://10.10.10.231) brings up the GWWA page and "DO NOT LET" me LOGIN.I am not able to access my account using GWWA.
I made GWTest1 user ( using ConsoleOne 1.3.6c , also gave him the groupwise A/c) and tried to login. It always says "Please login again. You may have typed your name or password incorrectly.Remember that passwords are case sensitive"
I am able to login to the same groupwise account using the groupwise clent and able to send and receive mail. Please suggest something.
2. With Internet Addressing enabled ( Can i have aliases). For e-mail address we want to use "firstInitialLastName@doma in.com"
FYI:I will now install the GW6.5 SP4 .The url (http://support.novell.com/filefinder/16963/index.html) you pointed me to now indicates that Novell has released GW6.5Sp4 yesterday (feb24/2005).
THANKS a lot.

The Domain and Post Office don't have to be on separate Volumes...won't hurt, but there's no particular advantage to doing so. What *IS* critical is that neither one is on the SYS: Volume. They should be on a Volume that resides in a different NSS Pool than the SYS: Volume (optimally, SYS: should have its NSS Pool all to itself).
1) Make sure you have a GroupWise password on that account. GroupWise password != eDirectory Password. Even if you have set the POA to High Security with eDirectory Authentication, you still need to establish a GroupWise account password for GWWA access. This is a consequence of the platform-independence of GroupWise (its designed to not assume that either NetWare or eDirectory is available to it).
If you're still not able to get in, turn the GWWA Agent logging up to DIAGNOSTIC (or VERBOSE, can't remember the highest level) and then try to login. Capture the exact error message.
2) Yes, you can have aliases, altho its a little cumbersome in how it is administrated. See the GroupWise docs --> http://www.novell.com/documentation/gw65/index.html?page=/documentation/gw65/gw65_admin/data/a7q50pq.html
FirstInitial.Lastname@doma in.com is a standard/included addressing rule, its just a matter of activating it in the Domain config.

Hi
I will get back to the question again after trying your tips in a few hours because i am in the process of reinstalling the netware server from scratch.
You have been very helpful.

I got the Groupwise WebAccess working today.I found out that the GW user need to be given Specific rights in order to Access Groupwise ( I think it was pretty obvious, but i did n't knew that).
Turning the GWWA Agent logging up to DIAGNOSTIC ( as suggested byPsicop ) helped a lot.
Thanks for the help

Long Answer: Its not "best practice" to put all the Agents on one server, but if all the client access is from the internal network and the only route to the Internet is thru the relay server, you should be able to get by. Note that, unlike Windoze, there are no LICENSING costs associated with deploying either NetWare or GroupWise to more than one server. You're charged per user seat - doesn't matter if you use 1 server or 20 servers for those users, you're charged the same amount, and there's no per-server licensing charge.
I mention this because NetWare v6.5 ships with a 2-server cluster services license INCLUDED. You can set up a 2-node NetWare cluster out-of-the-box, and GroupWise is cluster-enabled, also out-of-the-box. Main thing you need is some shared media - SAN, NAS, whatever. Again, at no additional charge.
