Setting up an IPP Printer
I have a Samsung ML-2250 network printer with internal network card which I would like to enable for IPP printing.
The local address of the printer is 10.0.0.5 set by DHCP and my lan is behind a router.
There is an option for ipp in the printer setup which requires the following fields filled:
1) Printer Name - can I use any name here?
2) Printer URI - in the format http://0.0.0.0:631 - do I put my router ip address here or the local printer address.
Do I need to port forward port 631 to 10.0.0.5?
When printing from a remote PC what URI do I use?
My remote PC is Windows XP Home - does it support IPP printing or do I need an IPP client software.
Many thanks from Richard

Many thanks for a fast reply.
I am printing from a remote pc so the router will get in the way.
What URI adress do I print to from a remote location & will I need to port forward?
Thanks Richard

I have found the answer -
The remote router was set to forward port 631 to the printers ip address
A remote printer was set up using "add printer" using the ip address of the remote router.

You should be able to use any printer name.
Enter the local printer ip address. Bear in mind that if you are using DHCP to assign the printer ip address then it might change.
No need to port forward.
There is no need to consider the router unless it sits between your pc and the printer.
Cheers!
