We have an JSP page that export the data to Excel by setting the response (ie Content-Type: Application/vnd.ms-excel).<wbr /> It works fine with Excel 97, but when we upgrade to Excel2003, the document is downloaded and opened fine. However when I want to save as, it thinks it is a HTML document and tries to save it as an web page document. I understand that from there I can change the file type to .xls and it will work fine. This extra step is very annoying and I am wondering if Excel still think it is a HTML document since it is downloaded from an jsp. We want to be able to save the document as an true excel document. <br />

JSP to Excel, Content-Type: Application/vnd.ms-excel won't work with Excel2003

JavaServer Pages (JSP) allow the development of dynamically generated web pages. It uses the Java programming language; JSP pages are translated into servlets at runtime, with each servlet being cached and reused until the JSP is modified. JSP allows Java code to be interleaved with static web markup content, so the resulting page can be compiled and executed on the server to deliver the content.
