Hello!

Today I got an AMD Thunderbird 700 Mhz in my hands and wanted it to mount it up on my Gigabyte GA-7VM VIA KX133 motherboard, but I get the following error at boot:

"VIA KX133 does not support AMD Thunderbird"

I remember this problem from the "ancient" times and I think there was a workaround for it? Which was it?

Thanks,
Chris

These types of problems may be solved by a BIOS update.  Check Gigabyte's website for a later version that addresses this problem.  The Thunderbirds used a single voltage which was different from the dual voltages of the K6's.

The funny thing is, that I read somewhere, that someone with the same board, made a BIOS update and then the board suddenly started to output this error, hehe. Anyway, I think I have the latest BIOS, but I will take a look.

Yes, I have the latest BIOS, but it is a beta version. This beta version recognizes hdds up to 137 GB.

It looks like some people used a "Golden Fingers Device" to get around the problem: http://www.dansdata.com/thunderbird.htm
