OUTLOOK express display only 128 most recent messages in newsgroup
I subscribe to a newsgroup, and access it through OUTLOOK EXPRESS.
Version 6.00.2800.1123
It is displaying ONLY the 128 most recent messages; on the status bar it says
128 messages, 128 unread, 15206 not downloaded.
Why does this happen and how can I access the remaining messages? I don't need all 15206
but at least, for sake of argument the most recent six months or so.
Thanks

One more note:
I assume I still have to synchornize the newsgroup in order to download the actual
messages? Until I did so, only the headers were downloaded.
Thanks

Thanks, asyscokid.
As far as the current view unless I missed something,
I did not see anything special. To clarify what
I meant by "less than 1000":
At the bottom of the screen I see the totals.
Before/after downloading the "1000 headers" they were:
BEFORE:
3134 messages, 3123 unread, 12206 not downloaded.
AFTER:
4131 messages, 4120 unread, 11206 now downloaded.
As you can see, the first two totals increased by 997,
not 1000.
------
Re: Synchronizing, I have a main newsgroup (if that's
the right term), under which is a sub-group:
news.openwatcom.org
openwatcom.users_c_cpp
If I click on the subgroup I see the messages.
If I click on the main group, I get a screen that
includes the button "syncronhize account"
Does this help?
Thanks

Could be that there is a problem with those messages ???
I don't know, but hopefully you've given me enough
info to solve my original problem. I'll be reviewing the
messages I _was_ able to download sometime within
the next few days, and if I find what I need, we'll
be able to close this issue.
Thanks for the help. I will post again once I've
reviewed what was downloaded.

You may want to experiment with Xnews, a freeware newsreader. I prefer it to OE.

Do you mean the comment about Xnews? I have not tried it, so I cannot verify if it would
suit my needs.

Have you clicked on View, Current View, Customize Current View to see if there's anything there? Have you applied any filters?
ASKER
Where do I see filters?
View, Current View, Define View, or Tools, Message Rules, News>

Looks like nothing is entered here.
In any event, I think I will accept your earlier answers..the result was close enough to
what I needed. Sorry for the delay in closing this issue.

One more commnet, I never figured out why it downloaded, say, 997 msgs instead of 1000,
but does not matter to me at this point.
Thanks again.

What's strange, though, is that that value was set to 300, when only 128 messages were being
displayed.
In any event, I changed it to 1000, and then clicked on TOOLS -> Get Next XXX Headers.
When doing so, it downloaded ALMOST 1000 headers, which is very good, although I can't
understand why it did not download EXACTLY 1000.
