I'm concerned about the method to add per-server CALs for Windows Server 2003. After selecting Licensing from Administrative Tools, I end up in Server Browser, select the server and double-click it. The &quot;Choose Licensing Mode&quot; dialog pops up, asking whether the CALs are per-server or per-device. I add the proper number according to my license certificate.... and that's it!!! Why is there no request for an authorization number or any of the other codes on the certificate?!!! Small Business Server 2003 is much more stringent - it asks for the &quot;license code&quot; and connects to some Microsoft authority to verify!<br />

Adding Windows Server 2003 per-server CALs

Windows Server 2003 was based on Windows XP and was released in four editions: Web, Standard, Enterprise and Datacenter. It also had derivative versions for clusters, storage and Microsoft’s Small Business Server. Important upgrades included integrating Internet Information Services (IIS), improvements to Active Directory (AD) and Group Policy (GP), and the migration to Automated System Recovery (ASR).
