Actually there is a good chance it is the anti-virus that is hanging the shutdown. Disable the anti-virus before shutting down to see if that the problem.

using win 98 well the problem is when i give the shutdown command my windows just does not shut down the screen goes blank and then i hv 2 switch the power off any takers i hv adequate adware and spyware protection i m using avg anti virus
