I recently purchased an NEC MobilePro 900.  It is running Microsoft Windows for Handheld PC 2000 with CE 3.0 Core.  I need to purchase a PCMCIA ethernet card to be able to access remote services at customer sites.

I have a 3com 3C589D card that claims to be compatible with the MobilePro 780 and CE 2.0 however I could not get it to work on the 900.  Any ideas on what card to buy or how to tweak the 3COM would be great.

The main problem I have is lack of information on what is the most compatible card to use.  Because this device was manufacutured a few years ago (bought a new one) they really focus on dial up as the main internet connection in the book.  They make mention of an ethernet card and claim to just use the NE200 compatible Driver however, they do not say how to bind it to that driver.

For the 3COM 3C589D card that I have, I read in an article that it can be used for the MobilePro 780 and there are downloadable CE Drivers for the card, however they are for CE 2.0 and my device is CE 3.0.   I tried to run the install anyway but it kicked me back saying that no compatible device available.

Any advice on how to get the 3com to work or recommend a better card would be highly appreciated.

i checked the both products and got the idea of what u wanted.

but the 3com site says that it supports only the older version of WinCE.

you might be out of luck unless you try downgrading the installation..

Can I downgrade a CE install??  I am willing to get a new ethernet card. I just happened to have the 3com.  Do you know of any other PCMCIA Ethernet Cards that are compatible with CE 3.0?

and this is for a handheld PC..

thanks.

Sorry for the delay... I was able to find the appropriate card on www.socket.com

They have a whole range of CE CF Ethernet cards and a TypeII CF converter so I was able to use the CF card in my pcmcia slot.  works perfectly...
