Diffrence between a dll and exe

hi
i have a file search code. so can any one tell in which it work better in exe or in a dll and why?

No difference (essentially) in performance.
The code in an exe will work for that exe.
The code in a dll will work for ALL applications that call that function you export from the dll.

Summary - dll will allow you to share that functionality between applications and has just one copy of the code.  In an exe you have to copy/paste the code and have multiple copies to modify (bug fix, improve functionality...)
