Installation of IE 6.0 overwrites existing OE mail?

Have a case: User installed TurboTax and in order to run this application, he was asked to install Internet Exproler 6.0. After the installation of IE, his old Outlook Express mail was gone. Does IE overwrites OE files without warning, or is there a chance to find OE old files?
1 Solution
The mails wouldn't have been deleted, but the link between OE and the files may have been broken.  There are two different scenarios, 1 in which the user had ie5 or higher prior to upgrading, and one in which he didn't.  It sounds more like the latter, but you'll find out either way.

Scenario 1
1.  click file->search->for files and folders and search the entire drive (including hidden files and folders) for *.dbx files
2.  you should find at least two folders, one (the new one) created after the upgrade, and the other from before the upgrade.  look at the modified dates for the two folders files to determine which one is the old one.  Note it's location
3.  in OE click FILE->IMPORT->MESSAGES->FROM OE6->FROM OE6 INFORMATION STORE->and point to the files you located
4.  complete the wizard to import

Scenario 2 (since winME and all later versions of windows came with 5.5 or higher assuming this is 98 or earlier)
1.  click file->find and search for files *.idx and/or *.mbx, you should find one of each for each "folder" in Outlook Express
2.  create a folder called "mail" somewhere as a child folder, for example c:\outlookexpress\mail
3.  copy all the files you located to this folder (if they aren't already in a "mail" folder)
4.  in OE choose FILE->IMPORT->MESSAGES->from OE4->browse to the "parent" of the "mail" folder, in the example above you would browse to and choose c:\outlookexpress in the wizard.
5.  complete the wizard to import
