Good IMAP daemon for Squirrelmail

I'm planning to run my own mailserver, so i went on the internet and found that squirrelmail is a good web-based wemail client.
Now i'm looking for a IMAP daemon since squirrelmail needs one.

My question is as follow: what is a good IMAP server to run so i can use squirrel mail al my own webmail?

p.s. do i only need IMAP or do i need some more programma's besides IMAP & Squirrelmail?

If you need simple imap use that
ftp://rpmfind.net/linux/SuSE-Linux/i386/update/9.2/rpm/i586/imap-2004a-3.2.i586.rpm
Download it and rpm -Uhv it

Or you can build your own package
Download it there
ftp://rpmfind.net/linux/SuSE-Linux/i386/9.2/suse/src/imap-2004a-3.2.src.rpm
and do rpmbuild --rebuild it

If you need complex and heavy imap, use cyrus-imap. But you will need many other staff for that
and too many time to configure. Go to http://asg.web.cmu.edu/cyrus/download/
and follow the instructions.

ok, that seems nice, but i have 1 final question

i downloade imap-2004c1

How do i install in :S when i give a "make" it gives the output:

Not processed yet. In a first-time build, you must specify
the system type so that the sources are properly processed.
make: *** [c-client] Error 1

For the most cases there is file README.
There is a quote from there
"...
1) Look in imap-2004/Makefile and find your system type code.  For example,
modern versions of Linux will use either "slx", "lnp", or one of the
   lnp-variants (such as "lrh").
..."

Therefore, to make imap you need
make slx  --- for modern linux
make lnx --- for older one

Unfortunatelly, I don't know which one you use :-)

P.S.
Btw, to build imap you will need SSL installed.
Have you?

Preventing your next question about SSL
Go get http://www.openssl.org/source/openssl-0.9.7e.tar.gz
make it install

Then, after openssl will be done.
go to your imap source directory and find the file
src/osdep/unix/Makefile

change the line SSLDIR=/usr/local/ssl
to corresponding directory you have installing openssl on previous step.
