asked on
google backward links
Hey,
Curious as to any known issues to be aware of regarding backwards links from google.
I can do a backwards links search on google and get maybe 1 to 5 results when I know there are many more.
For example:
The site I posted about here recently: http://tinyurl.com/6lv76
On Google I get 4 backwards links. On MSN I get 26. Yahoo gives over 30.
What is wrong w/ Google? I find this problem w/ many sites, not just the above.
thanks,
bruno

interesting - i guess that explains. have you ever heard of any reasoning for this?

Google does not want to provide any data that can be used to partially deconstruct their algorithm.
You can however get a better idea from "+www.yourdomain.+com" -site:yourdomain.com but this will include sites that just mention your web site URL without actually having a link. Also it doesn't confirm that Google considers these to be 'links' because it is simply a search.

Thanks for your help duz
I forgot to mention that I had a post-grad maths intern working on finding out how Google determined the 'sample' and we were unable to arrive at a satisfactory conclusion - that's why I said the Google link: operator is useless.
