Windows Explorer refreshes repeatedly - don't know cause

Windows Explorer refreshes repeatedly, could be exploring folders or using an office application.  List of folders and files will blank out and repaint from a few times to many times, in a little less than a second per refresh, then settle down and stop.  HELP! :0o

Reasons: - Malware, Spyware, Viruses.

1. Download HighJackThis from this web site: -
Fix the entries you find.

2. Secondly run sfc /scannow in Safe Mode.

3. Run the following scans also: -
CWshredder     http://www.majorgeeks.com/download4086.html
     Spybot :        http://www.download.com/3000-8022-10122137.html
     adaware :      http://www.lavasoftusa.com/
     STINGER  :   http://vil.nai.com/vil/stinger/   
http://housecall.trendmicro.com/                                       online scan for trojans
http://www.spychecker.com/program/coolwebshredder.html          CWshredder

Run all above perfectly in Safe Mode.

Does the same thing happen in Safe Mode also?

SP - yeah, had used several of those in tandem just to try and keep up with all the trash that gets installed on system.  But apparently had misused HijackThis in the past.  Did a clean weep in safe mode.  All problems gone!
