I must first apologize for asking such a simple question, but I have been giving the responsibilty of a sco unix server and I don't know much about how to network with unix.
The problem:
I cannot connect to the interent through the server.  I have a dsl connection and it connects to a netgear fvs318 router.  There are 6 pcs also connected to the router and they can access internet fine.  They can also access server without a problem.  The unix machine doesn't seem to be able to get past the firewall.  I recently installed the fineline mail server to the unix machine but since its not getting past the firewall it can't receive/send the mail.

Any help or good references for configuring the unix machine would be apppreciated.

I have tried to use the Internet Configuration from the scoadmin menu but I get an error that states : "error: Can't open display"

Forget Scoadmin - its a total pain!
Depending on the brand of SCO you have - If you are using Openserver 5.0.6 or later, you can just add the gateway address in the network settings.
login as root
type netconfig
type in the ip address of the gateway and thats it - should forward all external traffic to the firewall address

If you are using Openserver pre 5.0.6,
login as root
go to /etc/rc2.d
create a file called S99route using vi (I advise looking up how to use vi as there is a lot to explain in it)
just put in the line :
route add default X.X.X.X (where X.X.X.X is the gateway address)
save the file and reboot

The S99route file is then accessed at boot time and the route added for your session

et voila

Thanks for your speedy response nodisco!

I do a lot of programming in unix so I'm familiar with vi.  I just have no experience with the administration side.  I've been reading "SCO Companion" by Mohr trying to help me get an understanding of some of the tasks, but he dances in a lot of circles when writing about networking and routers.  He definitely didn't make is seem as simple as you have just made it.

The Openserver version is 5.0.4 so I created the file an added the line. I used the gateway address of the router and not the gateway for the modem since this is how I setup the windows units and that is where the firewall.  I assume this to be correct.  I have to wait for a lull in the system since there are people busy in the system now, unless there is someway to reboot the service without having the users logout.

Thank you again for your help, and sorry for posting such a basic question.

O.K. we had a break and I rebooted.
I tried to ping www.yahoo.com and got an error message that says: "unknown host www.yahoo.com
Is there a way to set the dns address or is there some way to check to see if I'm online?

Once you have set the gateway address on the sco box to the same gateway address the pcs are using, you can test if you have a connection out.

ping 159.134.237.6 - this is an internet dns server which will respond to pings if you have a connection.

To setup a DNS entry - edit the /etc/resolve.conf file

add the entry
nameserver X.X.X.X   (where X.X.X.X is the address of the DNS server that your pcs uses)

Save the file and try pinging a website address by name

I could ping the address, but when I added the file you gave I still couldn't ping www.yahoo.com so I did some more looking through the man pages and saw some references about the file except resolve.conf was only resolv.conf. change the name and everything works great now.  Thanks for all of your help.
