Server 2003 license cover a 2000 install

I have just received a server that came with a Server 2003 Standard Edition volume licensing CD and the server has Windows 2000 Server installed. Is this cool or is a 2003 only good for 2003?

Thanks in advance

Purely on your comment regarding having to notify Micro$oft.
