I need to know if anyone knows how to allow protocall 47 GRE to pass into a Netgear FVS318 appliance.  I need to be able to allow a pptp VPN connection to connect to a Win 2000 VPN server on the inside. Thanks.

First you add the service then you specify the rule becuase it is not one of the default rules, to this you: Go to services in the console and then add a custom service. Put the name as GRE and port the port as 47, also specify if you want udp and tcp and then save. You then go into rules and add a rule your custom rule will be there then you just apply to save yr config.

Thank you for your response, however, I was asking how to allow a protocall, not a port. There is a major difference. GRE protocall 47 is not the same as port 47 UDP/TCP.

You do not need to do that. I have a PPTP conenction set up on the same router with just the ports open, There is no option for protocol pass through because there is no way to block a protocol on those firewalls it is a very cheap firewall. Port 1723 and 47 is all you need windows PPTP connection is very different than that of a real VPN that uses 3DES AES ISAKMP MD5 and key exchanges, its real simple to set up.

I had actually thought of trying this. I am used to doing it frequently, however, I thought the actual protocall need to be let through. Thanks for the tip. So you see, it was the cheap equipment that actually made it harder.
