Hi. Just need some advice here.
I just finished compiling and installing KDE 3.4.0 from source code. 4 days of hard work finaly paid off. Those package dependencies drove me crazy. Anyway. In order to compile KDE, it required SO MUCH extra packages. So i am wondering, now that its done, is this huge number of libraries going to desterb my linux system if i just leave them sitting their. May be i will need them to compile next version.

Having experience with windows, every small extra program can realy slow your computer down. I want to know if its the same here.

I am running Mandrake 10.0.

Thanks.

If the library files are in the typical location /lib /usr/lib/ the only part that it would really slow down is when scripts run ldconfig which looks at lib links and makes links to the most recent libraries.

The version issue is not too much of a worry.  If a program needs a lib version that you do not have, it will tell you.  It is possible that you will need these libraries for the next KDE version, but the libraries might have changed by then.

I am not sure if this answered your question or not.

Hi AlexanderR,
RPM is not use in everyday work, just when you install packages. So a large RPM DB does not impact normal performance.

Cheers!
