Utility to synchronise folders via FTP
Hi all,
I’m looking for a tool that will help me to synchronise folders via FTP.
In a common scenario:
* I have a folder on my build server that contains a new tested version of a website (say v1.2).
* I want to push all the files that have changed over to a folder on the webhost. The webhost folder already contains v1.1 of the site, so ideally I’d prefer to only copy the delta.
* I need a way of dealing with missing files – if they have been removed from build v1.2, I don’t want them to be lurking around in the upgraded v.1.1 folder on the webhost. (With some notable exceptions of course; I don’t want any data files on the server to be removed)
* I’d like to be able to automate the process – so a tool with both a command line & a GUI interface would be ideal.
The best tools I’ve come across sofar are FTP Sync (http://www.fileware.com/products.htm#FTPSync) and UnleashIt (http://www.eworldui.net/UnleashIt/Default.aspx).
My principal problem with these tools is that they are incredibly slow.
How does everyone else solve this problem? What programs do you recommend?
