After running successful offline defrag cannot send receive mail

Regarding this earlier thread of mine:

The offline defrag ran successfully but now the clients cannot send receive email and the mail & public store are up and running along with all the services.
I even rebooted the server . . .
They cannot even email locally.

hopefully you made a backup before running eseutil, it's standard practice to make a backup (or two) before doing modifications like that.

can i ask why you were running the defrag? had you hit the 16gig limit or something?

Yea, lol I had hit the hard limit.
Yes I did have a back-up as well.
SO thats why I had to run an offline defrag.

Anyway, problem solved. When I looked in the services all appeared to be running but when I looked in the Exchange Management Console the SMTP was not running. So I started it and all is fine know. I had rebooted the server too so I expected that would have started it automatically?

yes, it should've started it automatically on the reboot, but glad you got it working anyways.

out of curiosity, what is your database size now that you've run the defrag?

it went from about 17 gig down to about 10.4 gig.
I had deleted some old users with large pst file sizes so thats what free'd it up, but would not reflect the change til after the online defrag & offline defrag.
