Mac power books able to get mail from the exchange server with just an internet connection.

I have a strange situation here, we have an all Microsoft network with a Cisco 1700 router and Netscreen firewall connected to our ISP over a pair of T1 lines. We are running Microsoft exchange 2000 and are using Microsofts VPN/RRAS server for network connection over the internet for remote users. We have only 2 Mac powerbooks in the entire company and they both have entourage installed. The remote users who have Microsoft based laptops must VPN in before outlook can make connection to the mail server. For some reason the 2 Macs can connect to the exchange server and get mail with just an Internet connection. Any Ideas on why this maybe happening and what I can do  about it?

Entourage is probably connecting to the OWA client on your exchange server.....that is the only way mac or pc can directly access Exchange over the Internet.....it really has nothing to do with these being macs rather than pc....other than that Entourage 2004 can be set up to connect to OWA

MS Entourage is not really an exchange client in the strictest sense of the word (it does not use MAPI to connect) it actually does most of it's work on port 80, the same port for HTTP access, most router configurations have this port open for webmail or hosting web sites
