Breakpoints in a popup webform

I have a breakpoint set on a line in a page that gets called by javascript-based popup code. When i compile the project the breakpoints show a '?' and tell me 'The breakpoint will not be currently hit. No symbols have been loaded for this document.' I don't see how the fact that this is a popup comes into play but that's as close to 'non-standard' that the page gets.
