Does anyone out there know a good resource that describes requirements tracking that can be done with simple tools like Word, etc.?  In other words, I'm looking for a methodology whereby I can gather requirements and track them through development and testing.  I'd like to do it without using some incredibly expensive tool like Rational Requisite Pro.

There is reason why Req Pro costs what it costs.  If requirements tracking were a simple task that could be maintained with any level of integrity with Word, the Req Pro would disapppear from lack of sales.  Tracking requirements the way you describe is a very complex process, and requires either EXTREME DISCIPLINE on your part( and such a level of discipline would require that the tracking process would quickly become a FULL TIME job, for any project that involves more than say 10 requirements), or a tool such as Req Pro, designed to do exactly what you are asking.
