Building Windows Service

1) What are the steps of building Windows Service? It should have public methods

2) What are the steps of creating Windows application that communicate with this Windows Service and call its public methods?
1 Solution
1) Here is a link to a turorial on creating a basic windows service in VB.net.  Other than installing the service, the programming part is not much different than programming a normal windows application.

2) .Net does not allow executables (a windows service is an executable) to have publicly accessable methods or COM as far as I know.  You will need to include a DLL in your solution and put your public methods/properties in the DLL.  The windows service exe can then use the DLL as an interface to the outside world.  For example, you could call a method of the DLL from your outside application.  That method would simply fire an event.  That event would be handled by either the windows service exe or by code in the DLL itself.
