Solution

SQL Server Books online, search "OLE DB Provider for Exchange"

-- Create linked server --------------
EXEC sp_addlinkedserver 'exchange', 'Exchange OLE DB provider',  'exoledb.DataSource.1',  'file:\\.\backofficestorage\localhost\public folders'

/*
Key elements in this example;
SQL 2000 must be running on the same computer as Exchange 2003.
The ‘file:’ name is actually an alias, found by exploring the IIS Exchange web, properties.

*/

-- Drop a linked server by name
EXEC sp_dropserver 'Exchange', 'droplogins'
go

-- List linked Servers -----------------------
EXEC sp_linkedservers
GO
