Have you got the latest drivers from hp.com as I think the old drivers, pre sp2, used rpc in the installion stage nd rpc (remote proceedure call) which has been modified in sp2 due to security risks

Yes I tried new drivers.  I just tried installing the software on a different machine running windows xp sp2 and the software installation went fine.  So it appears to be an issue with this particular workstation

Try removing (uninstalling) the service pack 2 and then installing the printer.
Go to add/remove programs and remove service servicepack2.
You can try also to make setup programme compatible for windows 95 and then run setup.

Originally the system had service pack 1.  And it did not work with that...I updated to service pack 2 hoping it would work better.

Are you trying to run setup from the manufacturer CD or are you using windows Xp add hardware feature?
I suggest you try and use add new hardware from the control panel or from start/settings/printer$faxes

add printer.Perhaps XP has better drivers...who knows....

%1 is the problem here.Setup is trying to run this invalid command.
I suggest you use xp drivers or even windows update.

... if yor printer is XP compatible I suggest you try and repair XP then.

Well then, whenever you talk to HP they always say its compatible.  Have had many issues with their drivers especially with their new printers when building print servers on server 03.  They have 1 driver that is supposed to be compatible with 2000, xp, and 2003 (which microsoft says is a big no no).

I'm hoping to avoid a repair but If I can't find anything else thats what I'll do

Hi,

You could try these solutions, they may help as they indicate a win32 error;

Perhaps your CDROM is ready to die.Sometimes this happens when the CDROM can not longer read tracks from the CD.

ok I fixed it....I did a search for the file hpzc3212.dll and found it not only in the sourch file directory but also in the windows\system32.  I deleted the file in the system32 directory then browsed back to file in the source directory hit ok and it installed successfully
