dlauseng,
off the top of my head...
failing motherboard, failing power supply, overloaded power supply, a win2k/xp machine set to automatically reboot on blue screen as well. bad RAM can also cause lock ups and random reboots.

there are certainly others, but those i think are probably the major ones.

Hey Dla :)

1) CPU or powersupply Overheating
2) bad drivers (can see this if u replace the mobo and try booting... sometimes they don't like the old incompatible drivers and it reboots)
3) intermittant short or noisy power
4) Bad memory
5) Insufficient power from the PSU
6) video card incompatibilities
7) incompatible PCI cards
8) bad motherboard
9) The gravitational effect of the dust around pluto ;-)
10) Get a UPS for real clean power
I am sure there must be other things... who knows.

and if you get a blue screen for a second, i suggest turning off the auto restart option in device manager, in the advanced tab
