Ok.. I have a site with some outbound links that vary on different pages.  They are text links (yes.. I have some graphic links but for the most part they are internal links).  what is meant by a

text link site map?  Would this be a list of all links on the entire site placed somewhere? a summary of the site's outbound links??  if not, I guess I am confused.

Site maps are just that, pages of text links mapping the site.  Here are three examples http://www.google.com/sitemap.html , http://finance.yahoo.com/sm and http://moneycentral.msn.com/help/sitemap.asp

They are used to provide the visitor with an understanding of a websites structure and (importantly for SEO) to make it easy for the SE bots to crawl the site.  It is essential to have a site map if the website uses some form of navigation for users that the SE bots can't follow, like certain Flash buttons for example.

It is best practise to have a site map on any site that is more than a few pages.

Well.. yes..  I understand about a site map for the website.  I thought this was something special about outbound text links and I could not see where mention of a sitemap fit into a discussion about outbound links.  I was wondering if it was some other sort of "site map"
