Invert Mouse?

I have a user which has been upgraded to Windows XP SP2. She uses a Dell Optical mouse. She is used to having the mouse inverted (ie you move the mouse forward and the pointer moves down). We believe this option used to be part of either Intellipoint or Mouseware, so we have downloaded and tried both but there is no option to change the orientation. There is a suggested registry fix on the logitech forum, but the key they refer to does not exist!

Are you sure it isn't just the buttons which she needs inverted, for instance to adjust for a lefthanded user? This you can change in control panel.

You could of coursejust turn the mouse so that the wire lead points toward the person...

You could do that, i could do that - but a USER who is used to having it a certain way is not willing to change the way they do things :(

Wasn't that user most probably using the mouse that way in the first place? As you have already noticed, there don't seem to be any tools around to do that, so I would believe the user has just been using the mouse with the lead towards her all the time...

Apparently, Mouseware "used" to include a Orientation tab in the mouse setup, but it looks as though this option is not available with their new version... couldn't seem to find an older version to download

Are you sure that "orientation" tab wasn't just the same as if you changed the mouse from right handed to left handed? I just can't think of any reason to use a mouse inverted, I can still only think of one reason the user got used to this type of mouse behaviour, and that is the mouse was put wrong way round on the desktop and the user thought it had to be that way.

You did say it was a female, and (no offense) females often tend to place things on the desktop so it looks tidy. Maybe it looked more tidy with the lead of the mouse coming out the front, possibly the cable would have looped out the back and then may have gone down to the PC via the front edge of the desk... that would deffinitly not look tidy, so why not turn the mouse roundso that the cable would run that loop.

Problem with that is, if u turn the mouse upside down u also invert the left to right movement. U push the mouse left, the pointer goes right.

Fixed the problem. After installing the Logitech mouse drivers, had a look through the registry and found the following:

HKEY_Current_User\software\Logitec\MouseWare\Current Version\Control Centre\Schemes\.Default\Devices|OpticalMouse10\

Setting "Orientation" to 180 inverts the X and the Y Axis.

I thought everything was supposed to be inverted, not just the X and Y axis. Anyhow, how can anyone get used to using a mouse that way?

Just out if interest, WHY does (s)he like the mouse upside down?

My Aunt does this, but it's because she has very limited space on her desk, and a too-short mouse lead which had to come up over the front edge of the desk from the system unit. I'm assuming when we get her new computer to her nex tmonth with a wireless mouse and kbd, she'll swap to "normal".

I'm not sure why - all i know is she has worked here a long time and she says that's how she's used to it.

Yeah, I just did similar, search through my registry for 'mouse' and found the orientation setting, still quite bizarre that she uses it like this, I find it impossible... now where was that reg key...?

No problem with a PAQ/refund. Will figured it out on his own, before anyone else. And may have helped others with a similar prob.

You should be aware that the orientation regsitry values only appear after installing Mouseware
