Is it possible to use logparser 2.2 from a jobmachine to run on remote IIS servers?

Normally we use the

SELECT .... FROM IIS://LOCALHOST/  syntax but we want to query an remote IIS server:   FROM IIS://[ip address] for example does not work

The error message:

Error retrieving object: "IIS://localhost/\\\": INVALID SYNTAX

is displayed

Is it possible to use logparser remote for this or must it be run on each IIS server locally?

Just checking, you aren't using "IIS://localhost/\\\" are you? You probably entered ""IIS://", correct? (strange error message :))

Copied from "http://www.logparser.com/instantforum33/shwmessage.aspx?ForumID=1&MessageID=1668":
You can do remoting in two different ways:

a) Run Log Parser on box A and tell it to parse the logs on boxes B, C, and D: the way you do this depends on the input format that you'll be using, but basically it's only a matter of specifying the right FROM clause. For example, to parse remote IISW3C log files it would look like this:

SELECT * FROM \\COMPUTERB\Logs\*.log,\\COMPUTERC\Logs\*.log,\\COMPUTERD\Logs\*.log

The advantage here is that you run LP once and you get all the query results in a single place.

b) Write a script that runs on box A and uses DCOM to instantiate the Log Parser objects on boxes B, C, and D: this way, the FROM clause needs to specify a local path, since LP will be running remotely. For example:

var objLogQuery = new ActiveXObject("MSUtil.LogQuery", "COMPUTERB");

var objRS = objLogQuery.Execute("SELECT * FROM C:\MyLogs\*.log")

With this approach, you'll need to instantiate Log Parser for each remote box, and you'll have to run queries multiple times for each remote box.

Hope this helps.
