Hello everyone,

I am trying to create some custom firewall rules using Symantec Client firewall administrator version 7.1.1.1009.  Everything seems to work fine except if you go to File, Import from Active Client/Export to active client, this option is always grayed out and disabled.  I create a rule no problem, save it and copied it to another machine, and then used import function using Symantec client firewall options, and the rule was working great, but I want to be able to create one rule and push it out to all the laptop users from a centralized location, don’t want to have to walk from one pc to another.  I tried looking through help but can’t seem to find anywhere that tells me how to enable this, I have tried enabling network detector, adding different zones but nothing works.  Does anyone know what I am doing wrong? Or how to enable the import / export option?

Thanks.

Hi,
To see the option to import, you need to run Firewall Adminitrator on a machine with Firewall installed and active. It is very useful to choose some prototype machines (one for each dept, or area, or building) to make groups and you can have rules based on logical groups.

To distribute rules to a group of machines, you need SSC (Symantec System Center). On version 8.x or later you can see another tab, Firewall. This tab is to distribute rules, only select machine or group and right click to select distribute Firewall rules. The program will ask you for the file and it will push the rule.

bye
