how to look at pictures in an "nrg" file

I have a CD which contains "Image.nrg".  That was an image file created and placed onto the CD with Nero.

Dumb question:  How do I look at the pictures contained therein?

I'm running XP, and have "HP Photo and Imaging", but trying to open the file on the CD with that utility - it just "draws a blank".

An .nrg image file is not an actuall image/picture that you can view. Rather its a 'snap shot' of the data on the CD. That is, a CD that contains whatever random data, like a game CD or a music CD, you can use programs like nero or Alcohol 120 to produce and 'image' of that entire CD and its contents. This image is like a 'topographic' shot of the raw data on the CD, all of the files and directories seen as though they were just one big file. This is usefull for transfering and storing the data on CDs without having to transfer all the individual files, u just have to move one big file. However u can't view the contents of the image of the CD as a normal CD without using software like nero or alcohol120 to translate the image back into its original CD structure.

If u want to unravel the nrg file and see what it is holding use nero to burn it to a cd or mount it as a virtual drive(using Nero Image Drive).
