HP Officejet 5510 Stopped Working

Hello,

I have had an HP officejet 5510 installed on my system for over a month now and it has worked perfectly until today. The printer has stopped work and I have no idea why. I have tired uninstalling the drivers both normally and in safe mode and I have reinstalled the software and drivers but nothing seems to work.

I am using Windows XP Pro Service Pack 2.

Thanks for the help,
Bill

Have you done  any changes to the system that you know of?  It would seem strange that the printer would just stop working inless the printer has actually died.  Some quick things to check - cables all plugged in?  Did you try the printer in a different computer to make sure it's not the printer that is the trouble?  Did you install the printer drivers correctly? (HP's usually want you to start the installation program, then plug the printer in half way through the installation)

Well the printer is new, I doubt the printer is dead. But it is something to consider.

I haven't changed anything, haven't plugged the printer in a different USB port, all the cables are plugged in.

When I did the reinstall, I left the printer plugged in, I will try your suggestion and see if it fixes the problem.

Thanks for the help,
Bill

You could also check the HP site for newer drivers.  if you have to install them, you may as well make sure you have the latest.  I would still try the printer on a different machine.  I usually find that if something is going to fail, it will do it within the first few months.

Can you print a test page from the printer? From windows?

Thanks for the points.  What ended up being the trouble?  Printer DOA, or something else?

I am not sure what the problem was. As far I can tell, it simply stopped working. Something I did or installed must have missed up the driver. But reinstallng it and making sure the printer wasn't attached seemed to work.

Thanks for the help.
