Hi,
I have worked with small networks of upto 20 PCs and have never used patch panels, Just wanted to find out advantages of patch panels and common uses.
Why should i use them.

Currently I have a 24 port switch and a network of 15 PCs, I have two patch panels with the switch,
How can i use them is there a performance advantage?

A simple diagram will help me a lot.

Well ... I'm working supporting our company's Data Center with about 300 Servers and NO PATCH PANELS!  The cabling is SPAGETTI!  ARGH!!!

Patch Panels are part of what is known as structured cabling.  In a small office like yours it's not so bad if you don't have them.  However, when you have hundreds or thousands of cables they make MACs (Moves, Adds, Changes) so much easier.  They're also so much better for finding cables and troubleshooting than not having them.

Ideally, all your horizontal cabling should terminate in wall jacks or patch panels.  Then, you run jumpers, or patch cables, from the patch panel to another patch panel or your equipment.
