I'm kind of confused about your question.  You have a .pst file from another outlook setup or from a current setup?  You said "when i link to my outlook" but I'm not quite sure what you are trying to explain here.  Also 1mb seems a bit small in size.  Do you have many email / contacts etc... previously?  It would more than likely be larger than that.  Otherwise this would explain why you get nothing in Outlook when you set it up using this .pst file.  Are you sure you are using the correct .pst file?

Even if you clear all items out of a pst file they size of the file does not change.  You have to compress the file.  In Outlook..right click on the personal folder.  Click on advanced.  Click on compact  now.  File should be compressed to real size.
