Control FTP Access Via OSX Server

My Question is, how do I allow only specific users access to FTP into our server, and control which folders they have access to.

I have a G5 Xserve which is our Webserver. I want to allow teachers ftp access into these subfolders, so they can manage their webpages. This server is also our applications server, basically we have a shared folder that gives everyone full access so the applications can run without permission problems.

Currently the teachers access the folder via a mapped network drive to the specific folder. This works great since all of the school system is basically at one site. But we will be splitting the schools up in July, and need a way to give the teachers a way to access, update, and maintain their webpages.

Thanks for the help!

There is an article at MacDevCenter which discusses how to do this with PureFTPd, which has a good GUI client. The article discusses standard Panther and Jaguar, but I'm sure it would work with Server too.

A more complex article using the command line:

Thanks for the help, I actually tried to use PureFTPd but had access problems from other sources, since this is a web server, and an applications server also. I now use Rumpus FTP Server, which works great! Thanks for pointing me in the right direction---
