Vonage delay when connecting on outbound call

I have a new Vonage Small Business account running on a Linksys RT31P2 behind a fast SBC DSL connection which has an integrated router/DSL modem. The voice quality is great, but there is one problem. When I make an outbound call, the person on the other end answers, but I don't get connected for a second or two until after the person answers. It's kind of annoying because I miss the person say "Hello" and then we both sit there waiting for the other person to talk. Is this something that can be fixed or do I need to dump Vonage? Specific troubleshooting trips would be great.
