I have an OCX control that talks to two different applications via an Access database, one being a VB app. and the other being and Authorware app (CBT Authoring package).

This OCX is used to view progress through the CBT application from within the VB application (a Student/Instructor set up).

Occasionally, I get this error "Run-time error '2147467259 (800004005)': Data provider or other service returned and E_FAIL status".

This only happens very occasionally, and when it does I can't repeat it, and also don't have a clue on where and how this error is generated.

Can anyone help !

I've seen this error when you have string handling in sql, and the data doesn't match

    e.g. select clng(mid(scode, 4, 3)) as numcode from table ...

If all the scodes arent numeric in those char positions you get an E_FAIL through MDAC but a proper error if you run the same sql in an access query
