Badmail / Drop mail folders

-Running the latest MS Exchange Software
-Windows 2003 Server, Windows 2000 Servers
-Not sure if all patches/updates are installed (that's not my area)

Recently we came across an SMTP problem that caused us to take a look at some of our folders and settings for our e-mail.
What we found was over 2K files in the "Drop" mail and "Badmail" folders on one of our servers (and others but thsi is the worst).  some of the emails have obvious problems such as bad email addresses but others look perfectly fine and not being email guru's we are stumpped as to why they were not getting delivered.

My only theory right now is that some how when you hit Send outlook is timing out and email gets sent to Badmail automatically.  Feel free to laugh at the naieveness of that idea.  Here is a sample of what we would think should be a perfectly good email in the bad folder and drop folders....

Any suggestions are extremely appreciated!  Thanks in advance!  Have a happy Friday!  :)

DROP MAIL......................................................................................

OK, so I can't find the good/and apparently unique example we were looking earlier at but still.... nearly all in the drop mail folder have bad email addresses....shouldn't that have gone into the bad email folder??

The Badmail folder contains messages that cannot be delivered into your organization, and also cannot be returned back to the sender........so as u can see Badmail folder
may hold 100% good emails...100% bad emails or any combination....exchange just does not know where to deliver it....for whatever reason....

The Drop folder is for emails arrived to the local domain(on ur  windows IIS server). If there is no software to pick up the email and it is not for relaying, the IIS SMTP drops
the email to this folder

now to clarify a few things....exchange 2003(sp1) does not have Badmail folder enabled by default(so nothing is collected there)....exchange 2000 does....
exchange 2000 and 2003 have nothing to do with DROP folder unless u are using them
for relaying.....
Drop folder is part of IIS's smtp server....
