I usually build amd systems
but I'm building a p4 3.2 ghz[retail box] system  with asus p5gdc motherboard  lga 775
I'm having problems with the heat sink and fan installation.
there are 4 pins to push down and I'm looking for advice
since the manual reccommends that the board be installed before putting this big ass fan on I'm a little uncomfortable with applying a lot of pressure to seat  the pins.
I was careful to seat the cpu according to instructions and it looks fine.
I don't know if the orientation of the fan makes any difference as there were no pictures showing the fan in any identifiable
Intel is closed until monday
so I thought I get your thoughts

i have installed many of those, you have a boxed cpu, right? Here is howw i do it :
-i touch regularly the system frame to uncharge any statioc electricity
-i put the motherboard on the conductive plastic bag it came in on a table
-then you put in the cpu as indicated in the manual
-then you put the heatsink and fan Assy over it, now turn the black plastic plungers Counterclockwise 1/4 turn
-now, push one of the plungers down, turn the black plstic 1/4 turn right and check on the solder side of the board that you have  this :
       | |
--   --   the U is the black plunger, it must be down all the way to lock the white plastic parts to the mobo
      \ U /

-repeat this for all remaining plungers
-connect the cpu fan
-install the Ram
-install the mobo after installing the standoffs for it.
