Right clicking a drive causes explorer to crash
Every time I right click on ANY drive, explorer crashes and an windows says it needs to close and asks me if I want to send an error report, the taskbar restarts and my open windows explorer windows close, sometimes explorer even freezes and I need to ctrl ald delete to restart explorer. this happens on both local hard drives and my dvd disk drive.
Originally this problem was much more severe, but I solved the worst part of it myself, basically I was unable to right click and even open one of my local drives, however I formatted my drive and reinstalled win xp pro (this version comes with sp2) now I can double click to open the drive but still no right click...
I used software to disable the error reporting service and I also removed "Dr watson" as I noticed this always appeared when a crash happend, so now a message appears that reads something like this..
The instruction at "xxxxx" referenced memory at "xxxxx". the memory could not be "written" click ok to terminate the program.
At least now the taskbar does not restart and windows doesn't freeze, but I still have no use of my right click menus..
I have used adaware, spybot search and destroy, hijack this, microsoft anti spy, avg antivirus, norton antivirus and I used norton system works / tuneup utilities to scan for problems with my disk..
I have however noticed, that since disabling the error reporting service /automatic restart and dr watson.. SOMETIMES right clicking works no problem. but its never permanent.
