instead, i've continued to create bgs in .psd, then saved them as gifs and dropped them in as the bg - works well enough<br />

Have you looked at the colour swatch panel in flash - you can import swatches and use them for fills - and it may be better that way for smaller file size.<br />

I'd like to create a patterned line effect in flash. Till now, I've been creating the graphics in .psd using 4x4 pixel blocks, filled with a horiz. or diag. pattern, then filled a selection with that pattern - then saved the graphic for whatever size i need, and imported to flash.<br />

is there a way to add patterned effects in flash, so that i can use scalable vectors instead of annoying jpegs?<br />
