Configure $cfg['PmaAbsoluteUri']

Hi,

I have just installed PHPMySQLAdmin, on my win2K Pro machine

I typed in localhost in my browser and the home page of MySQL DMIN was there, but it had a warning
          The $cfg['PmaAbsoluteUri'] directive MUST be set in your configuration file!
Your configuration file contains settings (root with no password) that correspond to the default MySQL privileged account. Your MySQL server is running with this default, is open to intrusion, and you really should fix this security hole.

I have read a little about this adn the solutions mentioned, where change the line as mentioned in the warning, or use cookies, or use Http somethign or the other.

Anyway, it mentions about configuring, config.inc file, and putting the URL of your website/page in the line $cfg['PmaAbsoluteUri']....I haven;t got one...I just type in localhost in browser to get phpMySQLAdmin

What do I use for my URL? Is having phpMySQLadmin in htdocs folder in the apache server, that bad? OR should I move it somewhere else?

any help would be greatly appreciated...:)

Edit the config.inc.php file.

In Absolute URI section (approx. line 40), make:

$cfg['PmaAbsoluteUri'] = 'http://localhost:8080/phpMyAdmin/';
or
$cfg['PmaAbsoluteUri'] = 'http://localhost/phpMyAdmin/';

// Be sure you give the correct cAsE for the directory.

It isn't bad and the "phpmyadmin" should be placed in htdocs folder only.

Hi,

Many thansk for that, have used 'http://localhost/phpMyAdmin/'

Unfortunatley, when I open up IE, and type in localhost, phpMyAdmin page appears but with none of the graphics, and when i select MySQL database a 'This page cannot be displayed' page appears...

I am not sure! Try reinstalling phpmyadmin and configure correctly from the scratch.

HI Again...

Have reinstalled and without changing the $cfg['PmaAbsoluteUri'] everything works...well phpmyadmin appears to work, although now I have an even longer message...!!!

' The $cfg['PmaAbsoluteUri'] directive MUST be set in your configuration file!
Your configuration file contains settings (root with no password) that correspond to the default MySQL privileged account. Your MySQL server is running with this default, is open to intrusion, and you really should fix this security hole.
The mbstring PHP extension was not found and you seem to be using multibyte charset. Without mbstring extension phpMyAdmin is unable to split strings correctly and it may result in unexpected results. '

Any help...desparate now....

sorry didn't to send same error, but as I mention above as soon as I add adjustment $cfg['PmaAbsoluteUri'] = 'http://localhost:8080/phpMyAdmin/';
or
$cfg['PmaAbsoluteUri'] = 'http://localhost/phpMyAdmin/';

it all goes wrong...

Look at my previous answer here: http://www.experts-exchange.com/Web/Web_Languages/PHP/PHP_Databases/Q_21313188.html

One suggestion: This is a PHP question, you should consider posting in PHP Topic Area rather than here, as most of the PHP experts won't look in the "Databases" Topic area.
